FABTalkers - Going Outside the Comfort Zone

For the first time, the FABTalkers stepped outside the comforting ground of Kalinaw Hall, IPDM.

The FABTalkers, trained students to speak about the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB)- agreement between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to reach a comprehensive pact on the establishment of the Bangsamoro which will be a new political entity to replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), traveled a one-hour drive from MSU-IIT to Munai National High School to explain to high school students  the facets of the Agreement. The program was formally opened by Mila Cawi, a grade 8th teacher, on behalf of the principal. This was followed by the welcome address of Professor Juvanni Caballero, officer-in-charge of IPDM. Mindanao History was lectured after by Husni Sarip and Fatma Johana Limpao, both College of Education students of MSU-IIT, who clearly traced the root of the conflict in Mindanao with the assistance of Professor Caballero who is an instructor in History. They also explained the basic idea of the FAB. After Mindanao History, Israela Joy Luis, a Political Science student of MSU-IIT, shared the FAB Annex on the Transitional Arrangements and Modalities which involves the processes to finally inaugurate the Bangsamoro Government. Next, the FAB Annex on Revenue Generation and Wealth Sharing was collaboratively expounded by Janne Claudian Salvana, a Biology student of MSU-IIT, and Abdul Mohaimin Abdul Hamid, a Medical Technology student of IMCC. They mainly focused on money matters for the setting up of Bangsamoro. To clarify some issues, questions were entertained from the high school students and teachers. Lastly, the program was concluded by a message from Sir Blas, activity coordinator of Jesuit Refugee Service, who spearheaded the FABTalk Activity.

Ms. Limpao discussing the FAB Basic Information

Considering that Munai is a part of the core territory of the Bangsamoro, it was surprising that the students and the teachers, as well, were clueless regarding the FAB. But not anymore!

Indeed, the FABTalkers was not in their usual scenario but they all did an exceptional job in relaying an essential issue concerning Mindanao.
