6 Students from MSU-IIT to Compete in Asia Pacific Huawei ICT Skills Competition
Out of thirty-six participants, six students from MSU-IIT emerged as winners in the Huawei ICT Skills Competition National Finals last January 29, 2019. After a series of tests, the top 3 winners received Huawei mobile phone, a trophy, a training voucher (Huawei Certified ICT Associate), and certificates.
The winners are Jesreal Duque (1st place), Gabriel Christian Pisla (2nd place), Jonas Serino (3rd place), Laira Reyes (4th place), Erickson Tacda (5th place), and Edwin Cuizon (6th place). These students, together with 6 students from the University of Southeastern Philippines, will compete in the Asia Pacific Huawei ICT Skills Competition Regional Finals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 4, 2019. The Filipino participants will contend with university students from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Australia. Regional Final winners will compete in the Global Finals in May 2019 in Shenzhen, China.
Introducing Huawei ICT Academy
Consistent with Huawei's mission in "bringing digital every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world", the Huawei ICT Academy is a partnership between Huawei and Universities/Academies around the world. Through this partnership, University/Academy delivers Huawei ICT technologies training, encourages students to get Huawei certification, and develops talents with practical skills for the ICT industry and the community. Huawei has developed a comprehensive range of ICT career certifications based on its industry-leading technologies and global practices.
The program aims to bridge the digital divide and shorten the learning curve of students. Director of Services of Huawei Philippines, Mr. Alan Lu, explained "We hope to provide some new training and curriculum to the Philippine educational institutions to promote ICT education."
Partnering with MSU-IIT
Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology is the second ICT Academy in the Philippines that Huawei Technologies Inc., has partnered with for the ICT Skills Competition.
MSU-IIT with its strong track record in technology-based solutions has caught the attention of Huawei Technologies Philippines. According to the company Senior Public Relations Manager, Ms. Karenina E. Buenafe, "We chose MSU-IIT because they have been consistently placing Top 5 in the Philippines Start-up Challenge for the past years."
The partnership in bringing out the technological skills set of students will continue as future programs between Huawei and MSU-IIT are in place.
